About CERN Print Service

The major objective of the CERN-wide Print Service is to coordinate the various activities related to printing throughout the site from one central point, with the aim of bringing a certain level of standardisation and rationalisation to the way in which printing is handled.

Infrastructure

This service provides, maintains and supports a central printing interface giving access to all centrally registered CERN network printers, multifunction copiers, faxes, and plotters. This includes providing central print servers mapping all CERN printers, managing their print queues and settings, and publishing them to all supported platforms.

Onsite support

The objective is to provide the support required to ensure the effective and smooth running of the CERN “printer park”, consisting of: printers, multifunction copiers, faxes, and plotters. This only covers standard machines that have been purchased through the CERN Stores or leased through established contracts.

The main activities of this service include:

CERN Printshop

This service covers print jobs which exceed the scope of the normal Print Service either in terms of quantity, quality or technical requirements. The service provides standard printing services on high volume, fast machines for producing professional documents in black and white and/or colour in A4 and A3, on paper or card, with a variety of finishes such as stapling or binding. Posters can also be printed in A2, A1 or A0.

External printing contracts

This service provides standard contracts with external printing companies for work that cannot be performed in-house at the CERN Printshop.
